Mr Baillieu last night announced: "This evening I actually have tendered my resignation as leader of the Parliamentary political party in Victoria and that i can shortly visit the Governor to tender my resignation because the Premier of Victoria.
"Can I say i like this state, i like the political party and that i love this role that I actually have had the honour to get pleasure from over the last 2 and slightly years.
"I have appreciated the honour vastly of being the leader of the Parliamentary political party over the last seven years however it's apparent to American state that a modification of leadership is within the best interests of the govt."
